Update on the 8th Annual BrunchThe OK Clean Water Project held its annual fundraising brunch to support the water project in Kumbo, Cameroon, on Sunday, November 21st, 2010 at the St. Elias Centre with approximately one hundred and sixty-five in attendance.
We were very pleased to have with us Edwin Visi, the Cameroonian engineer, and Cathy Molloy, cnd, who together plan and oversee the Water Project in each village. Edwin facilitated a most informative Powerpoint presentation on the progress of the work undertaken by the villagers when funds are made available to bring the clean water from the catchments high in the hills into a village. Edwin and Cathy also entertained questions and gave first-hand information about the planning and implementation of each phase of the work - including building catchments and storage tanks, digging trenches and laying pipes, installing stand pipes and maintaining the water system.
The brunch event also included a silent auction, crafts and some of the memorabilia from the late Norma McCoy, who launched the Project in Ottawa in 2003. Norma’s dedication and enthusiastic spirit were ever present!
Anne Lalonde, the emcee, invited Bob Carty, a former host of the CBC programme the Current, and a friend of Norma’s, to pay tribute to her in song. Bob led the gathering with two of Norma’s favourites - “Desert Eyes” and “What a Wonderful World.”
We are all most grateful for the ongoing support of those attending our annual brunch, for our many generous donors and for the St. Elias Centre for their very welcoming spirit. We look forward to hosting another brunch in the fall of 2011. Keep checking our website for dates of other events as well.
